Odd reply. "Word count is too high for traditional publishing." It is Adult Sci-Fi, 103,000 words. According to various websites, that's perfectly fine. Here's a quote: "Science fiction and fantasy novels typically have a word count between 90,000 to 125,000 words. The sweet spot, according to Donald Maas, is 100,000 to 115,000 words. This goes for debut novels and seasoned writers."

Generally, adult novels have a sweet spot of 90,000 to 100,000, but sci-fi and fantasy are longer for world-building purposes. I'm not sure if anyone else got such a query reply, but if you did I don't think it is accurate. I have an agent mentor right now and they say the book length is just fine.

Dear Señorita,

Thank you so much for sharing your query and opening pages of ______. Unfortunately, it is not the right fit for me at this time.

Please remember the publishing industry is subjective, and what doesn't work for me might be just what another agent is looking for.

I wish you the best of luck in your writing and securing representation.

Warmly,
Gabriela Laracuente Sánchez
